Camping allows me to be out in nature, creating images with all the incredible creatures! While doing that, I like to be as comfortable as possible. Outdoor gear is an investment, all the products that I talk about here have been well-used and held up to the test over the years. I am happy to share what works for me in the hope it’ll help you in making your decisions!

mindful choices | honest opinions | responsible companies

Peak Design Tripod

After years of use, I still find this tripod brilliant! It’s lightweight, quick to set up and pack down, slots into the side of my camera bag, not to mention it comes from a B-corp-certified company dedicated to making products that will last. It ticks all the boxes!

Peak Design Clip

I don’t know why I put off purchasing the camera clip from Peak Design, it has been such a game-changer! With this attached to your pack, you can easily snap your camera into place and have access to both hands. It’s quick, sturdy, and oh-so-convenient!

Topo Camera Cubes

Perfect for carrying your camera on the go (I use them in my hiking pack). You can customise the compartment with velcro dividers which allow you to haul all kinds of gear. Padded walls and base, keeping everything secure, plus a synchable top! Love them…

Urth Cleaning Care

Everything you need (and from a B-cro—certified company) in a cleaning kit — ultrafine brush, ergonomic blower, plant-based cleaning solution, and a couple of microfibre cleaning cloths, all packaged neatly in a recycled paper travel pouch!

Peak Designs Straps

I did not realise how many pieces of my kit came from Peak Design, but they just work! Including these straps — very hard-wearing, easy to adjust. I have a wrist strap that I can easily swap out because of their attachment system. Simple, streamline, and brilliant.

Wandrd Camera Pack

I have the PRVKE 31L bag with a Pro Cube to fit all the goodies! I’ve been using this bag for a couple of years now and it’s wearing so well! I often lay my bag on the ground, on rocks, it’s out in the wet and the sun, and I have been so impressed by how well it’s holding up.

Neve Gear Waratah Quilt

As a cold, side sleeper, this quilt has been a game changer when sleeping in the outdoors! It frequently surprises me with how warm it is, especially considering how lightweight it is. You can synch up either end, it comes with mat straps to ensure it doesn’t move around at night, it’s a winner!

Marmot Teton Sleeping Bag

This has been a great addition to my outdoor set-up. Plenty warm for a cold sleeper, dual side zips make it easy to get in and out of, and there’s a foot box that you can unzip for extra space, or keep zipped up for extra warmth! I love gear that can adapt to what you need for each trip.

Rumpl Puffy Blanket

This packable, portable blanket, comes along every time I’m car camping! It’s lightweight but toasty warm, has a ripstop shell and insulation made from 100% recycled materials. Perfect for sitting outside on a chilly night. This particular one has artwork from Rachel Pohl, and it is truly beautiful.

Sea to Summit Insulated Mat

I’ve been using the Sea to Summit Comfort Light Insulated Air Sleeping Mat for the past eight years, and can vouch that it’s a great hybrid mat (as part of it’s insulated)! Quick to inflate, packs up to the size of a water bottle, and it’s plenty comfortable for a hiking mat!

Jetboil Minimo Cooking System

This is one of my favourite pieces of camping kit, I love it! It’s lightweight, plenty big to cook all kinds of meals (from oatmeal to ramen), and it cleans up so easily. Jetboil systems heat up quickly and are a friend to your fuel usage. Highly recommend!

Fjällräven Singi 28L Pack

Hardwearing and very comfortable — even when fully packed. It easily adjusts to fit your body type, I have a long torso and don’t find women’s packs comfortable. Lots of storage pockets, bladder sleeve, and fits my camera cubes perfectly. You can also get accessories for extra space.

Kula Cloth

Yes, it’s a reusable pee cloth for anyone who squats while they pee, and it’s amazing! It has an antimicrobial absorbant side, and the flip side is waterproof to keep yourself clean. Simply snaps onto your pack and is a brilliant ‘leave no trace’ option for peeing in the outdoors. 10/10!

Evergoods Civic Access 1L Pouch

I’ve used mine as a first aid kit when hiking for years, and it fits my needs perfectly. It has a clamshell design with lots of pockets and zippers for holding all the bits and pieces, hardwearing fabric (mine still looks brand new), powerful magnetic closure. Expensive, but in my experience, worth it!

Nocs Binoculars

I’m sure it’ll come as no surprise that I like looking for birds and wildlife when in the outdoors… My lightweight spy’nocs from Nocs Provisions are awesome! Non-slip grip, weatherproof, and compact. Created by a company that is climate neutral and 1% for the Planet, need I say more?

Swiss Army Knife

An essential! My partner bought my a beautiful wooden version of the classic army knife and I rarely leave home without it. I don’t think there’s a single hiking trip I go on where this bad boy doesn’t come in handy. Highly recommend, for hiking, and for life.

Cotopaxi Gear Hauler

This bag is the bees knees! It’s super solid, is big enough to carry all your goodies, and has a bunch of pockets on the inside to keep things organised. Perfect for taking to the beach, out climbing, and I always use it to organise all the random bits and bobs on a road trip!

Topo Pouches

Well-made, well-priced, recycled materials, range of sizes, and awesome colours! On photography road trips, I use them for my drawing pencils, for an on-the-go sewing kit, to keep small charging cords organised. Honestly, the possibilities are endless.

Will + Bear Hats

I prefer a toque (beanie if you live outside of Canada…) to a hat any day, but when it needs to be a hat, I always grab for my Will + Bear. They are well made, offered in a range of awesome colours and styles. I’ve been wearing the William in ‘oak’ for years and it still looks brand new!

Archies Slides

New favourite slides, I cannot get enough! So much so that I have an outdoor and an indoor pair… How did I not discover these sooner? Slides with arch support? Come on! I avoid wearing socks and shoes as often as possible, which means these slides are being put to the test. Love ‘em!

Merry People Bobbi Boots

I freaking love these boots. As mentioned above, I avoid socks and shoes as much as possible, but I’ll make an exception for my Bobbi boots, they’re awesome! Stylish and functional. You can dress them up, dress them down, and I still get excited to wear them, every time!

Coleman Chilly Bin

There are a lot of great chilly bins out there! But we’re currently working with the Coleman steel-belted cooler, and it has been a great investment. Especially considering I’ll go on a five-day road trip and this number keeps things cold the entire time!

I love nothing more than getting to spend time in the outdoors, and sharing those experiences with all of you. I aim to consider our planet and minimise my impact on the environment, every day. This includes researching and ensuring that I make sound decisions when making purchases and recommendations. I like to think I’m an open book, so if you have any questions regarding any of the gear above, or any other products, please reach out, and let’s have a chat!
