The second half of Canada…
I write this from my couch, back in Australia.
I returned from an amazing two months home in Canada a couple weeks ago, and am finally feeling like a human again after a ridiculously long trip back to Australia!
My last couple of weeks were spent with my family. First, with my siblings, nieces and nephews, and friends in my hometown, Quesnel. There wasn’t a ton of photography as I wanted to soak up the time with my loved ones. My days were spent with the kids, playing outside, having coffee with friends, trying to spot a couple of foxes coming out of their den [no dice!], and my nights were spent playing Mario Party with my little sister. She is going to be so much better than me by the time I’m home visiting next…
My last few days were spent in Vancouver with my Mum, walking the dog, and finishing a quilt that we collaborated on. My flight to Auckland ended up being cancelled which gave me a bonus day — we took full advantage by heading to a quilt show, which as you can imagine, is a really fun way to get to spend time with my Mum!
--- I am so grateful for my time at home, and for every opportunity to visit my amazing home, friends, and family. Leaving never gets easier but I loved every minute. It was wonderful to get to experience the end of summer and watch the seasons officially change over to fall. To feel a cold morning and walk through crispy leaves. Canada is a ridiculously beautiful country, so if you’ve toyed with the idea of going — it’s time to officially put it on your list!
Thank you to everyone who helped make this time at home as fantastic as it was, it has been so special. Full of adventures, laughs, tears, countless hugs, and moments of simply being together. I am already counting down to the next visit. Until then, I love you all… 💛🌿
Quilt Details
“Forest Cabin”
In 2022, when I found out I’d get to go home for the first time in five years, I floated the idea to my Mum that we should make a quilt together. She agreed, even though she knew better... We chatted and created in our evenings spent together at her house in Vancouver, and she finished a majority of the large blocks after I left back to Australia. I was able to return home for a visit again in 2023. Mum having completed the top of the quilt put me in charge of the backing, which was pieced together with Mum’s stash and fabrics that remind me of home.
